here's my  next question.

what kind of fish would u suggest for a 29gallon.

currently there are 3 ottocats, 7 amanoshrimps , 1 golden algae eater and soon to be 4 flagfish (although i might only keep two of them).

i was thinking of a huge school of neons.

I think that anykind of tetra would be beautiful. I don't really know anything about the flagfish tough. How big do they get? What is their temperment? If neons exist they can't be to mean.

With all the others and a cloud of neons, I would reccomend either
a) Blue Paradise or dwarf Gouramis - I've got neons, dwarf,  and Paradise fish in my current 20H, and they get along fabulously.  They are a very pretty fish when healthy.  They say the males will fight like Bettas, but I've got 2 in there and they get along great.  They're also playful and intellegent.;D
b) Cory cats - You can't go wrong with Corys. I've got 4 in mine.
c) Rainbowfish 8)- Either the Bosmani or the neon type.  You could almost mistake them for saltwater fish they are so colorful. I don't have any (yet), but when tank space allows........

Johnny,

Gold Algae eaters are actually Chinese algae eatters. They are here anyway. He would be the first to go. If it is a CAE, you dont want him in there when he starts getting bigger. They tend to lose the appetite for Algae and look towards your fish instead.

Actually you could go with Cardinals, or Glow-lites, or Black neons, or some Rummy noses tetras, or some ......neon tetras. Any would look nice...in a school.

Scrimman. How many Paradise fish do you have together? If you have 2 males, they will...when they get older..most likely fight. I couldn't keep my Paradise fish with a betta either. Paradise fish are tough fish. SUrprised they tolerates your Gourmis. Are you sure you have Male Paradise fish?

unfortunately, i found out that it was a chinese eater AFTER i bought it. doh! so far it's behaving but i don't have any fish in there really.

i think i'll put in the flagfish first to see how they deal with my algae. i read that some can be agressive so i'll keep on eye on that. 4 flagfish is too many i think so i might get rid of two. maybe i'll sell them or something. i know they're sorta out of stock in my area. so if anyone wants some, let me know.

answering Mr RubyBarb

Actually, I have 2 males and 1 female. At least I think it's a female; it's got a shorter, less ornate tail and it likes to "dance" with one of the males.
It's also kinda planted heavily, but they've gotten along from day 1.
I'm hoping that they don't start in on each other, because I don't have anywhere else to put them.
Now, before you get ticked at me....
When I bought them, the LFS said there'd be no problems between them (I knew they were related to bettas) or other fish. ::) It was later on when I found some of the fish web sites I discovered that error. I don't think the LFS was being malicous; I think he honestly didn't know.
We'll see what happens.......

Scrimman.

Now why would I get ticked? :)
If you have 2 males and it works..excellent.

Johnny...get it out..before it too late ;)...if you can that is..w/o destroying your tank.

Is this your Planted tank btw??

daniels,
You have all the fish you can handle IMO.

When the Angels get bigger, you may have too much for the tank with all them in there.

Balas need a few friendly balas anyway, one is not how to go. They will def get too big for the tank, even my 55 gallon they outgrew.  ;)

Yeah balas get really big. I think you should put some guppies in your 10 gallon Johnny. Or maybe some MORE neons. Haha I know how you love those neons.

thanks for the suggestion. now i'm leaning toward some blue rams. saw some on aquabid. might take a stab at those and see. i was kinda dubious about ordering fish online but my american flagfishes came in great shape. it's just the shipping cost that's the killer.

Sounds great! But are you going to put the rams in with all 4 flagfish? I don't know how big flagfish get but that sounds like a lot to me especially if you add anything else. I know you said something about getting rid of some of them.

lol get the Chinese Algae eater out before its too late.  I remember in my heyday I had one and it got to be 3 inches,  it was a shitehead.  When I tried toremove him it was impossible he was so fast!!!  So get him out now before the tank is set up for good.  If you want a real good algae eater hunt down some Siamese algae eaters, totally peaceful and interesting too.

I have 10 neons with 5 black neons in my s. american tank.

You could shoot for some dwarf cichlids.  They are very collorful, good parents and only about 2 inches at max.

good luck

thanks for the suggestion.

i'm kinda hesitant about the rams now. right now, i don't have to feed anything in my tank. hehe. it's all algae crew.

but we'll see. andyes. that cae is pretty useless. he doesn't really seem to do anything. haha. i dunno if my lfs will take him back tho. i'll try.
