My Tank is currently cycling and I would like ideas as to which fish to stock it with and what plants to put in it once it finishes.
Its a 28g tank 33.5"L, 19.5"H, 12"W. Gravel substrate.
Current fish cycling tank are... 3 Black Phantom Tetras and 3 Red Wag Platies.
Current known plants are...
ANACHARIS
CABOMBA
BAMBOO PLANT
DRACAENA SANDERIANA

Any suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated!
Im new to this hobby and have jumped in feet first, starting to feel really passionate about it! Any advice welcome!

Golden Wonder Killifish are nice but for some reason not very many people here have them. I have 3 and they get along fine with my tetras and platies. The only problem is that they're very good jumpers.

I like the layout of your tank. Is there a reason that the water level is so low? You can have it right up to the bottom of the black rim, or a little above, so you can't see the water line and that will also help to keep the water coming out of the filter quieter.

Did you have something in mind for bottom feeders? Some cories would really liven up the bottom once it's cycled, and/or some kuhli loaches or yoyo loaches.

Thanks capslock regarding the layout. No there is no reason it is so low, to be honest i hadnt realised till you pointed it out. When i start my water changes i will fill it a little higher, thanks for the pointer. Im thinking cory's for bottom feeding, the missus also wants some ghost shrimp.
Im affraid my setup ay take quite a battering soon. My missus bought a piece of bogwood that is 14" long x 11" high, it'll take up half the tank!!

Oh and thanks platy for the golden wonder suggestion, i am trying to avoid jumping fish if i can. The kids like to feed the fish and i wouldnt like to risk it!

Can anybody help with this?
My platy has taken to sitting on top of the filter system is this a problem or am i worrying about nothing. It spends a lot of time up there.

I have added a photo of it.

There is also quite a lot of milky white goo on the suction cups of the filter, it sort of looks like underwater webbing in parts. Any help?

Your tank is currently cycling, and planted. I think anything goes. I see a submersible heater, maybe too hot? Could be he likes the current in that particular spot...good for resting. Might consider tweaking the flow?

Hard for me to say. Advice? I would never recommend anyone beginning the hobby to include live plants, least of all in a tank not yet established!

ammonia may be getting to him and/or nitrites.

Corys are fun make sure you get at least 3 if you get them.

Could be fungus from food that didn't get eaten .

The bamboo is rooting and is doing fine, i have read the dracaena isnt an aquarium plant. Im going to leave it in there till it starts to die, or until i can afford some more decoration. I think it looks nice at the moment!
