Just thinking out loud about a new 55 or 75g setup and was wondering if there's any fitment concerns with a new AC70 on the top rim of a standard aqueon/all-glass or perfecto 55 or 75? I like the idea of two AC70's over a single 110.

Thanks!

Gotcha.

I found some posts online from some years ago where people had issues with AC70's on some 55's and 75. I find it hard to believe the 70 wouldn't fit. They're a fairly large HOB. Those folks actually cut away some of the tank's top frame to make the filter fit. Yikes. Not a good move unless you really hate the tank.

I got the AC70s in the mail today. Given their large size, I'm surprised they only have a 1" lip on them. If the top of my 75g (that hasn't come in yet), is thicker than 1", these will be a no-go. Ugh.. The risks of mail-order.

I hear AC110's have a 1.5" lip.

I got my new Aqueon 75g tank today and my heart aches with sadness to report that Aquaclear 70's indeed do not fit the top frame of this tank. The top frame is 1-1/4" thick. The AC70 has a 1" opening. They would fit provided the ridge/flange for holding glass tops were not there. I'm not willing to grind/cut the glass top holding flange off the frame top for fitment and void the warranty on the tank. BAWLZ I say. Now I gotta see about returning the mail-order AC70's from Big Al's Pets. Looks like I'm in the market for an AC110 now.

FWIW, the new Aqueon 75g is nice. Very tight joints, extremely neat silicone, etc. THICK glass on it too.

The AC 110 is one hell of a filter anyway. Probably the best HOB out there if you forget about the impeller design, but performance wise its my favorite.
