You might want to check and see if they really are the curviceps, or the dorsigera. I bought some 'curviceps' last year from petsmart only to find out they were really dorsigera.

I think it actually turned out better for me really. To tell them apart the dorsigera males will have red on their chest area, while any curvecips will not. dorsigera are great though, and if they do turn out to be these I would highly suggest them if you have the room. Unfortunately I only have one female in my 75 gallon, but she is tough enough to go up against fish 10x her size when it feeding time to volley for food, but I have never seen her, or her mate when he was still alive even act aggressive tword another fish, even ones closer to their own size.

I think the curviceps are close in temperment.

EDIT: Sorry, they still are in the Laetacara group too if you want to search for more info on them.

petsmart has them listed as Curviceps Cichlid. Didn't notice any red on them. It seems that curviceps and dorsigera are very similiar.

These look like miniature versions of the black acara I have in the pond in the back of my community.

Until I can resolve the issues which killed my male rams, I am staying away from pairing rams for awhile so I though they might be a nice addition especially if they can get along with my female rams as well as not be bothered by my fat grumpy von rio who chases everyone away from his own little bush.

Well the male dorsigera's only show the red once they matured, and other than that the males and females look very similar until the males mature. The male I had was about twice the size as the female.
I don't know the difference well enough between the species to advise you well on juvie's, but check out photo's on the net of the two. Either way, I don't think you'd be disappointed with either fish.

I was going to go pick 2 up tonight and noticed two of my female rams doign the boogie dance on a large sword leaf. I guess one of the shes is a he.

Now I gotta fiogure out what to do with the other two female rams so adding new fish has to be pushed back.

Plus my rent is due for renewal and I decided to buy a house so I will be moving within 60 days. Will have a 30 day overlap and I might spring for a 75 g setup.

Sucks to be you (the moving part lol) :)

That's got me wondering if the petsmart I go to has any in. When I got mine, I saw on another forum that a lot of people had picked some up at their local petsmarts from around the US and in Canada. I'm going to try to check it out today as I'll be close and see what they got.

Yeah, the moving part sucks. I have my tools, my fishtanks, my tv, my stereo and my computers and my coffee pot. Everything else can go in the trash :)

The house I wanted might fall through because the stupid seller wants 5% in escrow to even consider an offer and I cannot commit until I am assured the house would pass a VA inspection. It is a foreclosure and the prior owner took the appliances and carpeting . Stupid bank lent soemone $286,000 on the hosue and is now listing it in foreclosure at $179,000 and is picky on where the money comes from. No wonder the banks are all failing.

If that falls through, there are 4 others to look at, I wanted that one because it is almost a 1/4 acre lot with a big fenced in yard and that is a big lot down here for the price. Worst case, I will get more hosue and a smaller lot.
