Flashing

I have 2 out of 3 guppies flashing. Only rubbing the sand, never the decor. They have both done it a few times, and usually only do it when close the the ground. Anyway, I was wondering what causes flashing? They all have BIG appetites, no clamped fins, and are swimming happily. I can't see any white spots, and I also can't see any "gold dust" on them (Though, it is hard, because they have a metallic-y color in the first place). What steps should I take to make sure I don't have anything infecting them? I hate sitting here not knowing what is wrong. I noticed them starting it yesterday. Bought them on Saturday..

Thanks

Check the parameters, 'flashing' can be a sign of high nitrates or nitrites. If it is not parasites causing the flashing, water quality is probably the next best bet.

My nitrites were at .5 before my water change yesterday, and they are a little under .5 today. Ammonia has gone up to .25 (I have a high ammonia content in my tap water, was at 0 before the water change), and Nitrates are between 5-10.

Haven't seen them flash yet today.. So hopefully it was a water thing.

If I don't see them exhibit any new symptoms soon, do I still have to worry about a parasite? They are all happy as clams at the moment.

I would suspect the flashing to be caused by the nitrites, so I would keep an eye on those and keep an eye on the fishes to see if the problem continues.

I wouldn't be too worried about parasites, typically you will be able to see them, in the gills, on the bum, or any where else on the fish. However there are some smaller parasites that may not be seen with the eye.

I can't say it is parasites, but I don't want to say that it is not, it is always possible.
