i just bought 2 apple snails for my 90 gal and one was floating this morning. i touched the foot on the snail to see if he would retract it and he did slightly but not much. so i placed him at the bottom of the tank and he just floated right back up again. is this okay or is there something wrong with him.

i think they have lots of hollows inside there shell, and when they want to go to the top they sqirt water out leaving only air, so that they float to the top.. and when they want to sink they fill the compartments with water

YER AND IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING UNDER THE WATER WHICH LETS OUT AIR BUBBLES SOMTIMES IF THE SNAIL GETS A FACEFUL OF AIR IT CAN GO INTO ITS SHELL AND IT CANT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE AIR ESCAPES
