hi i have been given a flouval 304 external filter. and i was wondering as my old internal filter is well old should i use it on my freshwater setup?

i can only see 1 problem as the tank is on a shelf i cannot put the filter behind it so would i get away with putting it beside the tank or woul i be better off placin it on the floor with the pipes running off the shelf to the filter.

oh the filter was used in a saltwater serup befor i inhereted it.

maybe i'm just being paranoid but i would never use anything that was formerly salty on a freshwater tank. if you had a brackish setup, maybe.
Should be fine. It's not like you're lobbing a chunk of rock-salt in the tank. Freshwater aquariums can/should use a little salt anyway... and I'm assuming 2e0raf would rinse the equipment before using it.

have the flouval setup. its working ok even if it does look a little strange sat next to the tank. yea i rinsed everything tubes filta case and the media. i decidet to do a little aquascaping, i wish i hadent i was at it hours and when i had finaly gor the plants where i wanted them and planted in the gravel the tank looked like birmingham in the 1960s with all the smog. any how with the filter running it seams to be clearing up, and b4 anyone askes i did leave the old filter spunge in the tank

I have my Fluval104 on the floor by the side of my tank.Doesn't seem to get in the way.
You may want to put your old sponge inside the Fluval at the bottom so that the bacteria is nearer to where it needs to be or you could wrap it around the intake tube.
