Ever heard of this fish?
it belongs to the cichlids family,
it has a very huge fore head which is the beauty lies,
some people call it 'Feng Shui' fish
that's why it is said to bring luck and can relief stress of the owner.... also it has the black marks on their body which sometimes may resemble lucky numbers or Chinese characters for prosperous...
The Chinese call it Hua Luo Han, note that the Chinese pronunciation sounds almost identical to its English name ^_^'
I found out how much this fish would cost u on aquabid and found that ONE fully grown (20") of this fish can cost you 3,000 ! something ..YES, it is US Dollar! and the babies which is only 2" costs you no less than 45 bucks!
the ideal tank size is 3 feet, at least!
here's a pic

I think they are crossed between either a Red Terror and a Severum or a cross between a Firemouth and a Red Terror. I think it is the first of the two. Either way i dislike the fish. For one because of it's bulbous head and second for how people market this fish, claiming it brings good luck. JMO

Anyway, it is a problem in releasing ANY fish into the wild because they can out breed, out hunt, and out last the native species. This is in one way destroying the ecosystem. This could also affect how large food fish can become rare and harder to find. Or we might even find ourselves with another "Snake head" issue.

It's a bad idea to release something foreign into a new area. It's not just fish, it could any number of things. Like cats, which when they are introduced into areas where there weren't any similar predators can kill huge numbers of the local wildlife, even to the point of killing off entire species. They, and similar animals, have been pretty effective at killing off small animals and birds in New Zealand and Hawaii, as well as other places. Sorry about the cat example, I just can't think of a fishy one right now. However, the same principle applies to both.

theres a problem with thh introduction of fish into lake victoia caused some very nice cichlids to go extinct in the wild, luckily they live on in the hobby, fishboy you are thinking of parrot fish which are a hybrid of red terrors and firemouths, flowerhorns are hybrids of Amphilophus citrinellus and Amphilophus trimaculatum, hybrids are just a way of making extra money for greedy fish people, when they were first sold people calimed them to be the "great unknown cichlid" and to bring luck, the only cichlids in asia are genus Etroplus, they are very agressive and in singapore have been inttoduced into the wild and are threatening the local fish populations, hybrids should not exsist and should not be created or sold
unforunately things like this will keep fueling peoples desire for flowerhorns

if you want an expensive fish said to give luck get a nice red arowanna and pass on the freaks
