I just had an idea I just bought a overflow. I was wondering if I could use my fluval 404 for a pump.  I would have the inlet in the sump and the outtake in the main take the overflow would bring water back down to sump.  Can this be done?  I would apprecaite any responses to this.

You might have a problem with that setup due to the Fluval 404 needs to have about equal length hoses. Also, the pump has to do all the work to force water back up to the tank, AND draw water UP from the sump into the cannister. It should have equaling pressures on inlet and outlets. All the pump does is flow water through it. I would say run a sump pump, and place the inlet and outlets of the Fluval in the sump. Keeps it easier to maintain IMO. 8)
