i have a fluval 104 external filter with the horrible grey plastic pipes. has anyone tried replacing these with normal green hose. the plastic hoses are a pain and not very flexible and a friend of mines split and flooded his apartment. my main worry is where it attaches to the flow stop will the hose clamps work ok.
thanks

I asked the same question on an other board. Got the same respones as you...nothing. There's got to be somebody out there that has got rid of those crappy hoses. Im not sure what to replace the intake and output pieces with. i like the filstar setup, but I dont think you can buy them individually.

I run 204's and 404's mostly - no idea what Ehiem hoses are like

It's simple enough to swap out for straight hose (read that thread link for info on that) or take the bit the hose is going to fit into to the hose shop with you for a snug fitting.

But as we're here - cleaning the ribbed hose is a doddle - take it into the garden - shove a hose pipe up the end, and blast out the crud - works for me. Shoving one end onto a kitchen tap would be just as effective.

I do mine once a year just for fun - you having flow problems ?

Nah, Im not having flow problems. Im lazy and anal at the same time....:D I just dont like the crud that shoots out after doing tank maint. Those ribbed hoses collect too much crud. A very Bad design on otherwise a good filter. In the summer I can blast them with a garden hose, but in the winter thats not an option. At least with the filstar hoses you can see when your starting to get a crud build up. I'll figure out something. Thanks Tim

try this. after disconnecting the Fluval filter, place a bucket under the hoses and open the value. perhaps some of that crud would come down the pipe rather than back in the tank. i also have a Fluval 304 on my tropical tank and that drives me nuts. i'm seriously considering a switch to Eheim.
