foam in filter

I read one of the stickys above and in it he wrote that he didnt run a foam media in his filter.
Is this common practice with everyone else ? How much nitrate does running the foam really trap ?

running foam is generally not done. it isn't so much that it traps nitrates but that it collects stuff which will then rot/die which releases nitrates. the amount varies based on a number of factors including the amount of stuff in your tank and how frequently you clean the pad. most people see a noticeable decline in nitrates and nuissance algae when they remove the pad

Camaro, long time no read! lol whats up, I have not been on the sight for like a month now, just been so bissy and not had time.
