I'm trying to change the food of my fishes from flake to pellets. I try to feed them with the new food, but they won't eat it. They just suck on it for awhile and spit it out. Should I starve them for a few days and try to feed them the new food again? The previous food I had was Tetra-min Pro and the new food is New Life Spectrium. My tank is a community tank with livebearers, rainbows, gouramis, hatchets, angle fish, cory cats, and clown loaches.

How big are the pellets? You say the fish suck on them then spit them out, do the pelets go all the way in to the fish's mouth? The pellets I have only my catfish can eat because they are too big for the other fish, maybe they are too big for your fish.

Maybe its too big of a taste change for them. Why you switchin? Better nutrition value? Maybe its none of my business. Maybe you should get an assortment of foods, cause I know fish take to that a lot more than just one food all the time. And maybe there so use to that flake, that if anything taste different just the slightest, they're gonna reject it. Does TetraMin sell pellets? And you got a lot of different fish with different diets, so theres another reason to go assortment. Do your fish suck on it, spit it out and never touch it again? Or do they go back again?

Is it possible

Is it possible

that the new food is too hard for them? The flakes are probably softer and they can eat it, while the pellets take a bit to soften up in the water. I know when I give my fish pellets, the pellets usually sink to the bottom and stay there a while and after an hour the fish go down there and eat them. Just my opiinion though.

I agree with lilfishy. It must be too dry and hard to swallow. My little fish do the same thing with pellets but the big fish just swallow whatever floating on top.
