A friend of mine gave me nearly 30 freshwater clams, mostly about 0.5" in diameter, some up to 1" or so. I've added them to my 60 gal, but I won't be able to keep them all. They are settling in, as they were in a very well maintained Koi pond, they breed in his pond quite frequently. At any rate, I'm taking 10 or so to my LFS tomorrow to see if he wants to sell them, I'd be glad to share if anyone would like a few. I'd be willing to part with 10 or so of them. They will bury themselves in sand or soil, and they are great natural mechanical filters.

Here's a pic of the tank,

and of them up close.

In the second pic, the moss is the the Java Moss strand I started off with, the small clam is about 0.5" and the large about 1" for reference

Some reason I'm not able to edit the above, however I should specify, they are still animals, they will produce ammonia, however they will consume food particulates, algae, dissolved wastes, calcium, and just about anything else soluble in the water. They are omnivores, so a good shrimp or invertebrate wafer is also good for them

I'll take some of them. I had a large one that was about 8" or so across that i got out of the mississippi for about a year but sadly it died on me about a month ago. but i've never seen them get much bigger then that.
