what do you all think of this stuff? Its supposed to cycle a saltwater tank faster.....and can I use it to reduce the amount of ammonia in the water?

Never heard of it , sounds like snake oil. I've always found good live rock gets the cycle started/finished as quickly as I need.
Are you cycling now..... please not damselfish 'like the lfs said'

why not damselfish for cycling tanks? what would be better?

A rotting shrimp, die off from live rock. A source of ammonia. Why use damsels - all you need is the ammonia, why torture something to get there. What can be more disheartening to a beginner than to get a tank of great coloured fish, that damsels are, and to drown them in their own urine in the name of 'cycling'?
Ethically sound? I don't think so
