Hey all

Just seeing whats up here

I'm building a 30 or so gallon tank (150 litres) and trying to get back into the whole scene again.
I used to breed siamese fighters (betta splendens) a few years ago (nothing fancy) just the boring colours, but I am now going for the complete tropical aquarium

Probably gonna need a whole lot of help soon!!!

Greetings, fellow countryman

This is a helluva good site for finding help - I've learned a lot just by scrolling through the old posts on the messageboard.  The most important posts you should be reading now are those on fishless cycling.

Regards.

P.S. Hope you aren't a Western Province or Natal Sharks supporter hahahahahaha.  I dig it whenever Natal eats dirt.

Do you know of any good places for equipment? Fish?

I know of a few places in Johannesburg that are fairly good:
- Sandton Aquatic in the Leaping Frog shopping centre just off William Nichol north of Fourways;
- The pet shop in Northgate shopping centre; in the same building as Checkers; next to a Tie shop;
- The pet shop at Hillfox shopping centre; off Hendrik Potgieter (lots of tanks here, freshwater and marine);
- there is a pet shop with a nice fish selection in that shopping centre in Blackheath (Stax shopping center?), off DF Malan/ Beyers Naude.

There is a local site :
http://www.guppiesforyuppies.co.za

I haven't tried them, and I think their website is still under construction.

If you still live in Durbs, sorry, don't know any fish shops there !

Regards.

Hi there

Yep, I am in Durban, and there seems only one place that is worth the time going to see - Tropical World
He's got a small shop in a dingy spot, but his back rooms are amazing - usually breeds all and everything, totally healthy and disease free too, but at the moment he's concentrating on angels (blecch!!)

Gonna have to go on a fish hunt

Have a good one

hey cool, I was in Johannesburg, a few weeks ago on my way back from Lilongwe, your airport is frickin HUGE. the duty free mall is about the same size as the average shopping mall here in Ottawa. I had no problem killing 4 hours waiting for my South African Airways flight to London

great to see some folks from africa on the board - do you guys ever get up to the great lakes? it's so close, only a 2 hour flight!

Yep, was in Malawi a few years back - went up there with a couple of my cousins for 3 weeks, drove up, and we just cruised around wherever sounded good, rounded it off with a bungee jump at Vic Falls, the then highest natural bungee in the world (111m)

Totalling amazing, would recommend it to everyone!!
And the exchange rates are out of this world, even for people from SA
