Okay well I woke up this morning to find my previously healthy betta with fungus on his head and his tail :( Ive researched but there is stuff Im still not sure about. Is this disease contagious? My other betta is in the same divided tank, and I really do not want him to get it too. I just added some melafix to the tank, is there anything else I can do?

Well, melafix won't help get rid of the fungus. Its only a mild antibacterial that can help soothe any wounds *caused* by the fungus. If you've got somewhere else to put him, I'd do that. Then add an antifungal medicine (something like Binox or Jungle Fungus Eliminator or Guard). Lower temps can help dissuade fungal growth too. If you don't have anywhere to put him, just treat the whole tank.

A 1 gallon is okay for treatment, you've just gotta be really careful about not over dosing and keeping the water clean:)

I do hope that the "fungus" you have, however, is a "true" fungus. Some fungi, such as columnaris, are actually not fungus at all, but bacteria that look and act like fungus.

From my experiene, thuogh, you should be able to tell very soon if the medicine is working:)
