fungus? or bacteria?

my female betta has been a bit more reticent than usual for the last day or two, and her stomach was looking a little swollen.

at first i thought she might just be gravid... but today she is exhibiting a white furry strand near (or coming from?) her ovipositor... i checked here. it looks a bit like columnaris, but i thought that only occurred around the mouth? i don't think it's dropsy.. her scales aren't sticking out as far as i can see. my boyfriend is speculating it might also just be a hang-on piece of poop.

i'm going to try catching a pic now... any ideas of what it might be in the meantime?

If anyone has a problem with not knowing what type of infection it is, I would suggest using Pimafix as it is mainly an anit-fungal medication, but also treats internal and external bacteria infections. I used it on my rainbows that had the white mouth thing going on for months (possibly columnaris) and it cleared it up with the directed 7-day treatment.

i've had success so far treating mystery infections like this with pimafix as well.

we've been doing this with a rasbora who had a few strange little fuzzy spots on him, and i was about to put her through the same treatment. i'm glad i didn't have to though =)
