Less than 2 weeks ago, I bought a bristlenose pleco, and while I was trying to introduce him into my tank (after acclimating him of course) I (unfortunately) think that I got a little rough with him with the net. He was sucking onto the side of the container that he was in, and I was trying to nudge him to get him off.

Anyway, a couple of days later, I noticed some little white marks around his gills, probably where I was poking him. It looked sort of like mold, so I figured it was a body fungus, especially since I heard that this often shows up on injuries. I quarantined him in a 10g and have been treating him for a week now (the tablets say that 1 dose over 4 days should cure it) and I have seen no improvement. Luckily, he hasn't gotten any worse either.

What should I do? Should I keep treating with the same medicine? Should I try a different fungal med? What else could this be?

Sorry for the long post, but I'm worried about the little guy. *SICK*

I am thinking (since you said it was near his gills), that maybe he has gill disease. Do his gills seem swollen?
Gill disease is a bacterial infection, so fungus medication probably wouldn't fix the fish's problem. I would suggest that you go to your LFS and pick up some antibacterial meds. I myself, always use Maracyn (by Mardel), because it just seems more efficient. :)

What med are you using? I would guess that if your med only treats fungal diseases that what he has is a bacterial disease. If the med you have doesn't treat bacterial diseases, you should probably switch to one that does. Many meds treat both, which is why I'm asking which you're using :)

Firebug, I don't really think that its gill disease. All that seems wrong is that he has some small, slightly fuzzy looking white spots on one side of his face. There's nothing on the other side.

Lotus, I'm using Jungle Fungus Clear. I thought that it might just clear fungus, but after looking at the package just now it says "Clears fungus & bacteria fast!".

Should I buy a different medication and try that?
