Today I did about a 20% water change on my 135. When I went to refill it I forgot to add a dechlorifier. Before I was even half way done I noticed one of my Rosy Barbs, dead as a doornail, and stuck to the filter.

I knew chlorine was bad for fish but I didn't know it was THAT lethal. There was probably only 10% bad water and the rest good water.

Don't forget the water conditioner!

Chlorine is a strong irritant to fish, and can kill them. Chloramine is lethal. Some water supplies contain more than others, and some water supplies do not use chloramine while some do. That may be why your fish died. I can fill up my tanks without much problem with no dechlor, but I still use it just to be on the safe side.

Chlorine will off-gas overnight, while chloramine will not and must be neutralized.
