I have heard some people use it in the food. They would mix it together with garlic salt and feed the fish. I actually did it for a time. It might be benifical and I dont think that it will hurt.

There is another thread related to the use of Garlic in the SW section somewhere on the board. I asked the same question here myself last year.

Yes you can use garlic to treat disease apparently.  There are garlic extracts that can be placed in the water directly, or you can coat the flake food with garlic powder and feed that to your fish.  I know it has been used to treat ich and velvet in marine reef tanks, and apparently it is suppose to work on freshwater tanks.

I have never personally used garlic, but from what I've researched it is a viable parasite remover.

FYI you can use maricide by mardel for ich.  I had an outbreak and was concerned since I had yoyo loaches and cories, my fish guru reccommended it and it worked.  It took a couple rounds of meds, but my water parameters stayed stable, the ich did not spread, everyone survived and thrived.

Malcolite (sp*) Green is the best ick cure out there. It removes the iron in the water which the ick needs to survive.  As far as garlic goes, chop up peices of it and mix it in with thawed frozen foods--that is if you're fish are picky eaters--it will help prevent internal parasites-esp the ones in the digestive track

I second the maracide works...

Or at least it worked good for me...no harm to plants or fish and I have some fairly sensitive fish.

And no apparent adversity. Used in conjunction with Furan as one of my rainbows seemed to hurt himself or something. (scales were scraped) and then appeared to develop an infection (scales were raised) and a whitish blotch was on him.  He is now looking MUCH better...
