Okay, so I had two male GBRs in my 29gal tank until today (thought they were a male/female pair at first, but have since realized they were two males). I say "had" because something knocked a chewed open bag of bottom feeder pellets into the tank from off the top of the filter (I'm suspecting a mouse) and I wasn't home. Needless to say, the pellets had started to decay already and the tank was completely nasty. Buried at the bottom of a pile of soggy pellets were my two GBRs, dead.
Anyway, I had just gotten back from the LFS with a female GBR (last one they had and she just happened to be female) when I found the 29gal in chaos. So, the little female GBR (named Annabeth) got temporarily put into my 18gal tall tank along with the four female bettas, Tristan, two swords (male/female pair), four platies, one dwarf flame gourami and one oto. Yeah, odd mix, I know, but the bettas, swords, and platies are temporary until I get the 55gal up and going again. Ultimately in the 18gal I want the DG, a school of six flame/Von Rio tetras, three otos and something cute and centerpiece-esque for the bottom area (but not an actual bottom feeder because the only thing that would work are pygmy cories and they don't sell them here). Could I do ONE GBR for my bottom centerpiece fish? I checked AqAdvisor and it says that a GBR will outgrow my tank, reaching 2" in length. Yeah, Annabeth is 2" and she has plenty of space, even with everyone else in the tank.
This tank is going to be Greek themed with black gravel and a black background. I already have Greek columns from Petco (one of these: PETCO Greek Temple Ruins Aquarium Ornament at PETCO and three of these: PETCO Greek Single Column Ruins Aquarium Ornament at PETCO ). It will have live plants (mainly smaller swords).
