my dad has been having trouble keeping his gbr's alive. hes lost 6 and got 3 more yesterday for a last try and i got 4 to try em while they were on sale.
miare the stripes a sign of stress and so on like discuss' are?

and i noticed that my dads second batch of 3 were fine until he did a water change, where he didnt heat the water, which we think led to shock. would i be right in thinking this? of course he lost those 3 within 3 days after.

then i watched one of his die, it started having spasms and would spin in circles, going upside down in circles and all.
do you think that was just caused from shock or perhaps something else?

so is something were doing wrong or do you think it might be the fish?

Yes, though i'd say that they might lose some color due to fear....such as a big predetor around (you). But that can factor into "stress".

Has the water been tested? Kinda sounds like shock to me. I've seen a few fish die just like that without signs of disease. The fish in the photo above seem like good plump healthy rams from my view.

I guess right now its important to know what the water is like.

nitrates: 0
nitrites: 0
ammonia: 0
ph: 6.8
temp: 82F

i didnt think my water was the cause of it

and my dads is the same with nitrates just being 4 or so.

my dad lost one last night, one of the ones we picked up yesterday. mine are good though, sneaking through the plants all creepy like and staring at eachother and fighting. so im hoping that mine'll make it.
