Just got a pair and looking for more information and insight from those in the know.

Right now they are alone in a 7 gal. What would you all suggest (even including a bigger tank) but mainly suggestion in the following areas.

1. decor
2. water parameters
3. food
4. substrate

Thanks in advance for all your advice.

I think a 10gal would be minimum....7 is close.

1. Plants, real or fake, and just somewhere so they can retreat and hide if they wish. Amazon...more plants than rocks. Maybe some driftwood too...small pieces.

2. I'd say 77-80 degrees. I really don't care to go for pH unless its a wild fish or F1/F2 fish. Just can't be up in the 8's.

3. General flakes are usually accepted. Something like Cichlid Flakes. I would also get some Color Bits. Bloodworms might be used as a treat.

4. Gravel....sand....don't think it'd make much difference. Go with what you like.

I agree with C-Man, except for the last. If you want to breed them then I would sugest either sand, or fine gravel. This is because after the eggs hatch the parents will move them around the tank into pits they have dug out. Sand or fine gravel would just be easier for them to dig in.
