right now i have four marbel angels
i was at the LFS and i saw some female bettas on sale....
when it be a good idea to add a female betta in with my angelsfish.

i have a 50gallon tank/tall

Well, with 4 angelfish, eventually you will have a breeding pair form... Which will probably mean all other fish in the tank (including angels) will have to be moved, or isolated... If that ever happened, your poor beta would be toast, hard enough to defend yourself against a fish your own size, let alone a fish that has fins that are bigger than you :)

I'd recommend a guppy tank...

No, keep the barbs out of the tank...

Some compatible fish could be some blue rams (german, bolivian or other) you could get really nutty and get some discus (Mmmmm Discus!). You could try some tetras, just try to get some larger ones (ones that don't fit in the angelfish's mouth) but do some research some like the skirted tetras do nip pretty good.

Other options are bottom feeders, Clothahump could probably point you at some excellent types of cories (they're fun in any tank). I had good luck with keeping dwarf gouramis with my angels no fin nipping to be seen, I'd probably stay away from the larger ones though.
