Ghost Knifefish self harming????

i have a friendly black ghostknife fish thats about 9 inches long, had him since really small... He is now self harming himself by violently bashing himself aganst objects in the tank... it's knocked off under fins and is down to flesh on his stomach area... what can i do????

What size tank do you have him in?

they require a large surface area...so the wider and longer the tank..the better...if he bashes himself against the tank like that...it could possibly been due to a small tank...and for 9in hes a big boy
