I'm pretty sure one of my black neons has gill flukes. His gills are swollen and reddish and he spends most of his time in seclusion panting near the surface. I've been crazy busy with this first week of classes and havent had time to do an indepth look at all of my fish everyday so theres a pretty good chance hes been sick for a few days. I've tried to do research as to how to treat him but im having an awful time of it. Can anyone give me a list of medicines that would help? I've read somewhere that some ick medicines might help...would ick clear tablets help? Thanx for all the advice.

Oh ammmonia and nitrites are at zero and nitrates are under 20.

Both of those ingredients are somewhat useful for flukes, but probably not the first choice.

With tetras, you will need to be careful with making sure the med isn't killing them.

The Parasite Clear tablets might be a better choice.
CopperSafe is very effective, but you do need to keep a close eye on the fish while treating, as it can kill sick or weak fish fairly fast.
Something based on either copper or formalin as the active ingredient would be the better choice, although both chemicals are a little harsh on fish.

I went ahead and started putting the Ick Clear in...its the closest thing i have on hand and my LFS is already closed for the day. Hopefully he'll make it through the night and maybe i can get a better medicine tomorrow.
