Hi!

I could not think that it might be a problem to find a glass cover for a 40g aquarium.
First, I went to one store. They said it it possible to order one, so I did so. The canopy came about 2" short...
Then I went to Big Al's, where I also ordered one...It was supposed to be delivered next week after that, but it was snowing, so they could not deliver one. I waited one more week, and this time I was said that the store is closing, so it is also impossible to do so....
Altoghether I waiter for 4 weeks to have a glass. I do not think it is normal.

I just was wandering if there anybody from Calgary who can help me to find it, or advise me a store.

(oh! the dimentions are 36"x18 and the hight is 15" Hagen Aquarium without a devider)

Thank you :)

I dont know that this will help, but thought Id share it in case it does :)
Several months ago I bought a used 55 that had no top. My husband measured it all out and took the measurments to a glass shop and just had them cut the glass for the top. When it came in we brought the glass home and set it on the tank as it would be as a top...took some silicone and where it would be the opening lids, just spread a thin layer of the silicone on the top and use your finger to smooth it out and down inbetween the two pieces of the glass top and let it sit and dry without opening for 24 hours and waaaala nice new glass top for not that much money!

...I am not sure, did your husband, I mean the store, cut one piece of glass? and how did you do open lids? did you use strips or the pieces of glass were connected only by silicon

it has a brase all around the perimeter of the tank, so the glass can lay on it; but there is nothing in the middle, across the top

Ok...what you need to do is measure starting at the INSIDE lip, where the glass would rest, measure from from front to back, then measure from side to side. your light would sit on the back half of the tank so the pieces need to be wider at the back for the light to rest on and narrower at the front so there is room to open the "lid" and it rest back against the light. Which would be easier really than mine was because it does have the brace in the middle from front to back so 4 pieces needed to be cut instead of just 2. So you need to find out what size light the tank needs, or do you already have a light? Some lights rest on the outter edge of the rim, some rest right ON the glass. So you need the width and depth of the top and the glass needs to be cut into 2 pieces. Then when the glass is sitting on the top of the tank, thats when you use the silicone to form the two pieces together to make the "lid". I hope this makes sense lol I am truely a girl and know next to nothing about actually doing this kind of thing, maybe your "dad, boyfriend, husband or male friend, or even female friend" that knows how to go about this could help you. Then you just need to figure out what thickness of glass you want to use...the glass shop could aid you in this as the one I took mine to had done fishtank tops before. I hope this helps LOL and GOOD LUCK!
Oh and one more thing, for knobs on the lid you can use just about anything you can grab ahold of even a kitchen knob in the building dept of a store...just silicone it to the lid at the same time!

Thank you so much! :p
all I need now, measure and go to the store to cut a glass. I am not sure about silicon(never used it), but I think I will be ok.
