Going on vacation - what about the tank lights??

I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and I have some one coming over to feed my fish - but she'll only be coming by around 3 times during the whole week and it'll be during the afternoon so I don't know if I should leave the tank lights on or off.  I have a 55 gal with fancy goldfish, a 29 gal with assorted tetras and danios (this is the only tank with live plants), a 12 gal with guppies, and three 2 gal betta tanks.  Of course, each has it's own light source.

My fish have gotten really used to lights on during the day and off at night. Does anyone think that leaving them on the whole time I'm gone would be a stressful thing for my fish??  ::)

Thanks in advance for any input!  *twirlysmiley*

Re: Going on vacation - what about the tank lights

Geez, I didn't EVEN think of timers..   :-[  That's a good idea, and I happen to have one here - but.. it requires that I plug it directly into the wall outlet -  I have all my tank lights plugged into power strips along with the filter power cords and air pump power cords - then the power strips are plugged into the wall outlets (which I've had to expand from 2 outlets to 6 using one of those expander thingies - Of course, if I plug the timer into the wall outlet, everything will turn off.  Since I don't want the filters or air pumps to turn off, I think I'm back to square one again...

Are there different kinds of timers that plug into a power strip maybe??   ???

Or just put the tank with the live plants on the timer. The tanks with the non-live plants will not suffer without the light, ambient room light is enough. Just leave the shades up instead of leaving the roomlight on though!

Re: Going on vacation - what about the tank lights

Hey, thanks for the replies, folks!!

Turns out that I was completely clueless on how to use the timers we had.  I've got everything set up just fine now.  I got all stressed out for nothing!   *twirlysmiley*

All I needed to do was plug the light cord for each tank into a timer and then plug the timer into the power strip. For some reason, I thought I HAD to plug the timers directly into the wall.  NOT!

Thanks again for the timer idea. Now you know what happens to me when I'm getting ready to go on vacation - my brain takes off before my body does!!   ;D
