gold algae eater

My gold algae eater has some gray/black spots on both sides from the middle to the tail section. They don't seem filmy or or anything - they just seem like his scales are changing color. Any ideas?

If it is a gold algae eater, as in the gold version of the chinese algae eater, I have seen so many of them in tanks together, some gold, some silver and grey and some mixed. Not sure if they breed together, but I think they probably do, maybe someone else knows? It would make sense though, if they are just different "colour versions" of the same fish. They seem to almost always be kept in the same tank at stores. I have seen some really cool patterns!

I had a gold one yearsssss ago, I seem to remember it doing the same thing and mine was perfectly healthy. Keep an eye on it just in case but I reckon it should be fine.
