ok well i went to the local petsmart again last night... i was returning one of the faintails because it happened to die the day after i bought it... anyhow i got a ryukin fantail in its place, and then i figured my betta needs a buddy, so i got him a snail, and i also got him some live plants, my first atempt so i got cheap ones some red ludwigia, and some mondo grass. But the real question here is what am i supposed to feed the snail? i didnt really look into it before i bought it but im am an impulse shopper. cant help myself.

so any suggestions on what to feed this little guy/gal?

You can feed him almost any kind of fish food... flake, pellets, wafers (they'll usually eat anything). You will only need a flake or two a couple or times a week, or a pellet or 1/4 algae wafer twice a week.

By the way, the mondo grass is a marginal/bog plant, and won't survive in an aquarium for more than a few months (if that).

im glad you told me the lady at petsmart said it was a full aquatic plant. so what am i supposed to do with it ? lol im glad i only paid 1.50 for it, im just testing my luck with the plants untill i clear out the 10 gallon, i placed an ad on the chiclidforum.com for all the jewels so as soon as i rehome them i will be experimenting with my first real planted tank. and i will just try the algea tablet method i think. i have tons of them for the plecos, corys, and bumble bee cat who has grown an apetite for them.

You can plant the mondo in your yard or if you have a pond, it would do well by the pond. :) I believe they work OK as houseplants, too.

I figured with the variety of fish you have that there would be some kind of food the snail would like :) I used to feed snails whatever fish food the fish didn't like.

if i used it as a houseplant would i need to do it half submerged or just potted normally?
and i gave the snail a 1/4 peice of algea tab and he sucked on that thing for a good 4 hours till it was gone, was very amusing lol

i didnt notice the gold mystery snails had bright flourescent orange on them till he finally came all the way out of the shell it was awsome, and the betta is having no problems with him at all, i think he enjoys the company actually.
