The Goldfish I was talking about the other day just died.

In case you didn't read my other message, the other day I noticed a few strings hanging from my Goldfish so I was told that he had anchor worm. Since then I was treating the tank with maracide. This morning I wake up and I see a lot of what looks like internal bleeding, a lot of red under his skin over most of his body and he was barely moving. A few minutes ago he died. I guess the maracide for some reason didn't help because I've been treating the tank with it for about a week. I couldn't raise the temperature in the tank because it is, afterall, a Goldfish tank, but I did take the carbon out of the filter.

Now the other 2 Goldfish in the tank are going crazy, they're the most active I've ever seen them; swimming like crazy. Could they be scared/depressed? Should I continue to treat the tank with maracide?

I wish I knew how the poor fish got this worm in the first place. All 3 fish have been in the newly set up tank for 3 months and they all seemed fine. No new fish were added, no live foods were added. It's very frustrating and sad.

Sorry to read about your loss Vipex. Secondary bacterial infections are not unknown in these cases. Yes, you should definitely continue to treat the tank, the life cycle could be 25 days, so treat for at least 10 days after removal of all the adult worms.

3 goldfish is really too many for a 10 gallon. What are your water quality readings? ie temp, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.
How long have you had these fish, were they healthy when you bought them?
Did you try to remove the anchor worms?

3 is too much? These Goldfish were really small.

The fish were healthy. I did find these weird looking things floating at the top of the tank the other day and took them out. Could they have just fallen off the fish? Where do they come from?

Sorry to hear about your goldfish!

Bobrob and Taffyfish are right, a 10g is way too small for 3 goldfish, even with just the 2 remaining it's too small. Most people will recommend at least 10g's per fish. Mainly it's because they are such messy fish, but it's also because of their body weight. A one inch goldfish has alot more body mass than a one inch tetra!!!

Because your fish are "acting crazy" the first thing I would do right now is a water change. Since your other fish died, your tank could be experiencing a slight ammonia spike. Have you tested your water for ammonia/nitrites today?
If the other fish still have the parasites then yes you will have to continue treatment, but when you do that water change, give the gravel a good vacuuming to remove any that might have fallen in the gravel.

Good luck with your fish!!!:D
