Hi There- My son had 2 gold fish in a little 2 gallon tank. I felt bad for them and got them a 10 gallon tank 3 weeks ago. I realize I made a mistake by not cycling the new tank ahead of time- but I am new at this - anyway- Wednesday I noticed they had red spots on their bodies and fins- After doing a lot of research it seems they have septecimia. They also have dropsy. I went to the pet store Friday morning and got them Melacyn2 and an antibiotic food. I did a 50% water change before adding the Melacyn- I also removed the carbon from the filter b/c I read on the package and on the web that it could reduce the effectiveness of the Melacyn. Last night the pH was 7.2, Ammonia between 1 & 2, Nitrite between 0 & .25, Nitrate between 5 & 10. This morning the one fish looks better- He seems to have lost little of his red spots and his fins are still up- The other fish doesn't really look better- His fin is still clumped together on top and his dropsy seems a little worse- He appeared sicker to begin with-
My question is should I seperate them? Is there any thing else I should be doing?
