? If you want too why not? Being new to freshwater doesnt really have anything to do with keeping saltwater, alot of people have never kept freshwater and only kept salt. There are some interchangable principals but for the most part it is a different ball game.

I disagree.

Nanos are excellent as starter tanks. In my opinion they are the best way to get into saltwater. Keep one fish, live rock, and once you get going after a couple months or so, you could try a powerful light and learn how to keep corals. Start with a 10 or a 20 g long, for instance, figure out the ropes, then you can go from there, either smaller or bigger.

i agree with lordroad, nano tanks are tons of fun and easy to keep, even with a messy eater like my mantis i have been able to keep corals in an eclipse with a coralife ligh over it. nano tanks are also cheaper

parameters can change quickly but it does not take that much attention to keep everything on track. I think that my nano experience so far has given me the confidence to take on larger aquariums. Oh and Ram Man is dead on, the $ allows beginers a way into the hobby.

I would agree with lordroad and those with the same train of thought. If you go into this hobby with the right information a nano tank isnt anymore difficult then a large, understanding bioload will be your best friend. As fish outa wata stated it can also be a way into a hobby that is less then ideal in the financial world. I say do it, but do it after arming yourself with an array of information. And above all be patient.
