Cory's are a great choice. They are schooling fish and so i would recomend getting a school of 5. They eat bits of uneaten food so they will help out cleaning up your tank.

how about a lawyer,oh wait you said a good bottom feeder.corys are good like depthC said, but remember that just because a fish feed at the bottom doesn't mean that your tank is clean don't forget to gravel vac on a regular basis.and don't forget to make sure they get some sinking food like shripm pellets or bottom feeder wafers too.they also love bloodworms and stuff like that.

just not sharp gravel. look for gravel aprox.2-4 mil. in size perferably epoxy coated.sand isn't really any more trouble than gravel and can even stay cleaner than gravel if you clean your tank often.and if you suck some up during a cleaning just add some more.sand is very cheap, about $4 dollars a bag for 50 pounds or something like that

pretty much the basis has been covered here, I would go with the corys and the ghost shrimp. And like I just said in another thread, dont assume your bottom feeders eat garbage. they mainly eat the food that was leftover from your other fish but you do need to suppliment their diet as well.

There are no crap eaters, only leftover eaters, so you must clean the "crap" out with the gravel vac
