I'm looking at a tank for $600 cnd and wonder if you all think its a good deal....Tank specs are:

120g with
DIY hood with 2 flourecent light fixtures built into it(lights included)
2 Fluvals
protien skimmer
heater
thermometer
gravel
live rock(lots of rock)
probably some feather dusters and shrimp and snails
and a couple of fish

Now they may not include the fluvals for it though...so with or without them does it sound good?????

Oh I don't have the 600 it will be saved up over the next few months.....Its a friend selling it so they're gonna keep it for a while till they get posted so I have 6 months to save....and if I buy it I'll have a 30g for sale cause right now I have 2 30g 1 25g and a 10g as well as a bunch of betta tanks.....I think I'll go for it if they haven't sold it buy the time I have the $ saved and if they did sell it by then I'll just buy one new....

I was thinking of keeping it as a saltwater but I'm a little scared cause I don't know too much, actually pretty much nothing about keeping a saltwater...I was thinking of turning my empty 30g into a saltwater with the stuff from the tank I'll be buying and turn the big one into freshwater for my sharks cause I don't want to stunt their growth in the 30g....she's also selling a 65g with all the fixings for 300 but I don't want to buy both unless I can get rid of the rest of mine for a good enough price to cover the cost of buying the other ones...the 65 is fresh water

fishkeeper, that really isnt true...there are people who do that, but as a majority harvesting is done carefully and safely (without dynomite/cyanide) not to mention a large number of SW fish and inverts are now being bred in captivity...if limited numbers of animals are taken from the reef it is easy for it to recover...as for LR, that is usually either aquacultured or taken form the reef margins (where it has fallen off and is going to disentegrate anyway

oh yah, i have no idea about the value of the canadian money, but for $600 us that is a steal, probably up to $1000 us its still a pretty good deal...i say go for it and keep it SW, just get some books, do some reading, and you will be fine, and hey, your buddy probably knows a bit too since he has clearly kept SW ;)

yes i want to agree that the saltwater aquarium fish trade had improved a lot in the last few years.cyanide capture has been banned in most countrys and many stores offer m.a.c certified fish. fishermen trolling with gillnets and other raper of the seaflorr cause more damage than the whole aquarium fish trade.i do know that live rock is still harvested from reefs occasionaly but that tends to happen in poorer countrys, with less regulation due to economic impact.
