Goodbye Whisper...

...and good riddance!

I just replaced the whisper 40 filter on the 25, it was driving me crazy! the tank is in my bedroom, and it made enough noise that it was difficult to sleep at night, and the media needed to be rinsed out every week...

all the while, my aquaclear 150 worked away along side it, without making a single audible sound, and only needed rinsing about once a month.

I had enough, so I ordered a AC 300(now called 70) to replace it, and I must say, I'm very satisfied.

that makes 450GPH on a 25... I love being a megalomaniac!

Im with you. For some reason all my whisper filters just seem to be low quality products. Ive got one that makes a ton of noise and i dont even use it. The little plastic tab that goes on the thing before the impeller must have hardened over time as i found it in the sink after cleaning it all hard, brittle and broken up.

I need to clean the one whisper on my 45g all the time it gets real nasty as its the only filter on the tank ... whisper filters suck IMO.

My Aqua Clear makes a horrible god-awful vibrating/buzzing/humming noise (and it's just an AC mini) - I've even exchanged it for one that made the same noise, all the while my Whisper10 doesn't make a noise. To me Aqua Clear's are junk and Whisper's can't be beat in the noise dep't :)

as for the AC being junk, they are the best HOB's I have ever seen(I've yet to see an eheim), very well built and good filtering ability. The whisper had to be cleaned out every week, while the AC went for a month or more.

the noise on the whisper comes from the seal around the motor; it isn't a tight fit and the motor can be wiggled around a bit, this causes vibrations in it.

Swimming against the current here; you see, I have the misfortune of living near a pack of boomcar idiots. The police have a "we're sympathetic but that's the way it is here" attitude, so a filter that hums or buzzes would probably help to mask some of my neighbors' rudeness.

So long as the fish are not being vibrated, I welcome the white noise that an aquarium can bring.
