I won a Rena XP3 on Ebay for $31, plus $30 shipping. It's used, but went so cheap because it was listed as a "Rena XP Three" instead of "Rena XP3" so not many people saw the listing. I'll need to get some media for it, but that's it, it has everything else, so it's basically a steal.

I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to change the filtration yet, as of now I have 2x HOT Magnums each hooked up to a Biowheel Pro 30. However the Biowheels are actually part of the Pro-60 set, which means they can be hooked up to run off one filter. I'm thinking I might leave one of the magnums hooked up to the biowheels, as I'm thinking the flow from the XP3 might be a little crazy going into them. Then I'll take the other magnum and keep it availble for water-polishing with the micron filter when necessary.

Opinoins?

Great find!

I think your plan sounds good. You may eventualy want to loose to other HOT if you want as I belive you'll find that an XP3 is more than good enough for a 46 gallon tank, but it's really up to you. No harm in leaving it.

That's how the outputs on my Magnum 250s are now. They put most of the water into the tank, but just enough up to the biowheel to keep it spinning. I'll have to see if I can find anything like that for the XP. The ones I have for the Magnums come right out of the filter - not a universal thing.

The Pro 60 is just 2 Pro 30s with a T connector between them. You take that off and put a 90-degree elbow (buy at bigals) from the part where it normally hooks in to that T on the pro 60. Then the conversion from a pro 60 to 2 pro 30s is complete. I'll try to remember to take a pic.
