I would be careful about that common pleco. i made the same mistake of buying it for a 40Gallon. It will outgrow your tank, and mess up any live plants that you may want to keep. I suggest getting a bristle-nose pleco instead. Make sure to get a species that doesnt grow too big (under 6")

thanks buddy ya it said eighteen inches on the info for the pleco . and i have a forty gallon tank but right now he only is bout 4 inches. how fast do you think he will grow

Mine grew from 3" to 6" in about a year and a half. This is ONLY because of improper tank handling, ammonia spikes, cold water temps, and poor diet (my parents only fed it with algae wafers.)

Under NORMAL conditions, a common pleco, in a 40gal should grow to about a foot long in one year, no matter what size he started at.

Its up to you man.
