Well I finally got around to go to the LFS to trade in my Kenyis, and pick up some new community fish for my 37 gallon. Today I picked up 4 Serpae Tetras, and 2 clown loaches. I just got a check today for $50 so I plan on adding some more fish later this week. I would have gotten more Serpaes but they only had 4 in stock. Basically I was wondering if I should add 1-2 more clown loaches. And after that, does anyone have any other suggestions for tank mates for the previously mentioned fish. Thanks guys.

First, I would not get any more clown loaches. They supposedly can can grow to 11 inches...I have never seen one more than 4 or 5 inches...so 2 should be fine...thats what I have in my 37 gal and they are goof balls.

As for other fish, because the tetras can get a little nippy, you could also try tiger barbs or maybe some danios, I also happen to like gouramis and with enough cover they should be ok.

Best advice would be to find a good reputable LFS and see what they recommend to put together.

The lady at my LFS said a clown loach can grow to about 8 inches, but she said more than 5 inches is uncommon. I was thinking about getting about 8 tiger barbs, a mixture of green and regular. And maybe a large shoal of about 12 neons. That should add a lot of color and activity to the tank. Id probably add the neons first though.

Serpae Tetras suck!!!!!!

IMO anyways. They nip every fish in my tank to the point they have no fins. I have never hated a fish more than this one. Anyways gl with them and check your other fish regulary for missing fins.

for once the LFS lady is right, clown loaches grow a foot in he wild, they can only reach 6-8" in aquariums and that is rare even 5" is rare as she said, if you do get one that large the price on them increases alot so youcould sell it back and get a new clown loach and make a few bucks

Everything sounds like its coming together. Watch out with the neons though. They are VERY tempermental and will die for no apparrent reason. I love neons and cardinals both. My LPS and LFS don't even carry them anymore because they can't even keep them alive.

As for the clown...go for it. It will take a few years for them to frow to 4 inches...so enjoy them while you watch the critters get bigger.

I had a neon die on me randomly over the weekend. He lost his color shortly after I got him, then just died like 3 weeks later. He never stoped eating though. Ive heard that about neons though. I figure if i get 12, hopefully 10 will survive. I think Ill probably go to the LFS today a pick up a dozen neons, and then add the tiger barbs in a week or two. Thanks for all the help/suggestions! Anymore are welcomed.
