Hi,
I have a new pair of dwarf gourami; they've been in the tank since Sunday and now the male is building a bubble nest!  He's defending his corner of the tank very vigorously against the female and the platty..

this is all very cool and exicting to watch, but I've read that male gouramis (what's the plural of gourami? gouramis or gourami?) sometimes kill the female.. my tank doesn't have as many hiding places as I'd like; will I come home from my class this afternoon to find a dead female or a dead platty?  Should I frantically throw some wood in the tank?  (I have some for a different tank that's soaked & ready to go)

He will get aggressive. You may want to remove the platy. You can leave the female in the tank. More hiding spots would be good. If the gouramis spawn, remove the female when she is done doing her thing.

Re: gourami bubble nest!  killing?

If I keep destroying his nest when he makes one, I'll feel mean, but will it keep his animosities down until I can get my 10-gallon tank set up for them to *really* spawn in?

(btw, i also have a school of neons, but I don't think they even register on the gourami's radar screen.  they do school a lot more since he joined the tank :))
