Surely.

I'm on the assumpton that much of the bacteria that is growing in your tank will do so in the filter, and that which grows on the substrate will hardly be removed from vacuuming. Vacumming probably only removes large particles, not the microscopic sort.

Removing wastes from the tank can only ever be helpful - it will cause there to be less ammonia, therefore less nitrite, and therefore less nitrate. It's better for overall water quality and fish health.

About the only time I don't vaccuum is when it poses a risk to certain critters---If I have fry in a tank or baby crays, for example, which I will be expecting to have soon.

Don't wanna have them sucked through the siphon!

I used to always vaccuum around ornaments and plants---chalk it up to sheer laziness. But it didn't take me long to realize that water-changing is enough of a chore in and of itself that I might as well just go ahead and remove the decor anyway. Besides, that's where most of the debris accumulates!

Sounds like you're doing a fine job.
