I have a Lee's gravel vacuum. I really bought this thing because I needed a siphon tube. It's been a real hassle splashing water all over the place because I couldn't get the thing to work. Any tips on getting the vacuum to activate, like holding it a different position?

Yep just grab the end and act like you are dieing for a drink of water. BUT dont get any in your mouth it doesnt taste that great. There is a method that you place your thumb over the end but I have never been that good at it so I just do the sucking method

I use the suck method too... I could never get them to start on their own with the "pumping action," so I don't try anymore. The freshwater doesn't taste nearly as bad as saltwater, that's the one you really don't want in your mouth.

As much as I like the taste of my aquarium water, I prefer to fill the whole tube with water and cover the end with my thumb. If the end of the tube is below the gravel vac, gravity should take care of the rest.
