Gravel

I'm in the process of setting up a 30 gallon. I'm trying to make it all as cheap as possible. When I looked at gravel at the LFS they wanted 25 bucks for 25 lbs of gravel. That's absurd. Petsmart wanted 12 bucks for 25 lbs which wasn't too bad. However I got 40 lbs of gravel from lowes for 3 bucks! The gravel has varied sizes of stone and different colors, but for the most part it will work good in the new tank. All the gravel is round and doesn't really have to many sharp edges at all. I can't wait to get the stand built and see it in the tank. Just thought I would share the gravel story with everyone! Has anyone else ever bought gravel from the hardware store?

I set up my 29g as cheap as possible also as I am on limited income (allowance ). I got 25 pounds of gravel at Petsmart for $12. I have never used gravel from home depot or lowes but it shouldn't be a problem. Just wash it REALLY good before putting it in.

didn't buy gravel but sand is at least 1/2 price compared to the fish store and works just as well.

I just finsihed cleaning all 40 lbs of gravel. Only took 3 or 4 hours. Someone else was reccomending I get sand but I'm not ready to try it yet. This gravel will look good in the tank once I get it. I just wish it wasn't going to rain all week. Because then I could start building the stand. But I'll probably buy the tank this week and then take all the measurements and draw the blue prints for the stand!
