right now my 29 gallon tank has 2 "green" cories, as well as one julii cory. the 2 were sold to me as "green cories", and i assumed that they meant emerald cories.. but after bringing them home i decided that they definitely weren't emerald cories, there coloring is nothing like the pictures of emeralds that i've seen.

i've never read anything about green cories, and i assumed they were mislabeled, but the funny thing is that all three lfs that i visit - petco, petsmart, and a local lfs called fish world - all have these "green" cories.

i don't have any pictures, but they look a lot like bronze cories... funny thing is, one lfs had bronze and green cories. and one had green and emerald cories.

any ideas?

EDITED to add, this might be him... but mine aren't as green...

i think they are the corydoras aenus, though it is strange that it is being sold as both a 'green cory' and 'bronze cory'... my main reason for thinking this is this:

Colouration uniform yellow-brown to delicate reddish-brown with a strong metalic glint on the sides of the head and body. Sometimes shining green, sometimes coppery or, in sunlight, golden. The colouration along the middle of the flanks is substantially darker.
sometimes my corys seem to reflect the green off of the gravel, whereas other times they look more bronze.

on another note, i just got a julii cory and so far it doesn't seem to school with the green corys at all. do you think it will start to?

gold star for TLH  i stopped into petsmart today, and they had the scientific name under the "Green Cory Cats". corydoras aenus it is!!

but i'm sure i saw both green AND bronze corys at one lfs. so strange...

still curious about the lack of schooling of my julii, if anyone wants to chime in. ;)

Sometimes they don't school if they aren't the same species (or at least don't look a lot alike), and/or if they are very different sizes. In my 37g, I've got 5 paleatus cories, 2 schwartzi, and 1 oddball that looks a lot like the schwartzis... the paleatus stick together, but don't shoal with the others much at all.

It's highly likely that your Julii Cory isn't a Julii at all aswell.I have a Trilineatus that was sold to me as a Julii.Looks almost the same but for a few subtle differences.

it looks like you are right TLH. i actually think the trilineatus is a bit better looking than the true julii! :D i think i want one or two more of them, because they are so attractive.
