how does one get rid of green spot algae on plants? I seem to have a bit showing up on my crypts, and now even on my hygros. on glass I can scrape it off with a razor, but even my finger's can't get it off leaves. 20 gallon tank, 66 watts flourescent...thanks!

An increase in Co2 is the only way I have ever got rid of it.

As my DIY Co2 tapers off, or the water level lowers causing some surface agitation, it forms. When I redo the DIY, and raise the surface level again, it usually goes away over a few days to a week.

I SAE don't touch it, it's too hard for mine.

mmm my ottos don't seem to be able to get at it either. a thick coating of brown algae on the front glass was gone in one night, but I guess their mouths aren't strong enough to suck off the green spot. I went ahead and did as you said, Matt, putting on a new bottle of DIY yeast and raising the water level to the filter output (which is something I try to do anyway....oops  ) and I guess we'll just have to see~!

There are a couple of ways:

Rub it off (if possible, this mainly applies to glass & stuff)

Increase plant growth rate

Reduce lighting (this is ideal for crypts, anubias, and other slow growers)

Edit: there is no algae eater that is effective at eating this, if at all, so don't bother buying more algae eaters.
