Green Water / Diatom filter ? Diatom filter help?

1. Does this filter replace my existing water filtration (Whisper HOB type) or is it "in addition to?"

2. What maintenance does a diatom filter require?

3. Tetra makes a "Diatomagic" filter that is cheaper than other makes - is it some kind of gimmick or whatnot?

4. What brand do you use, if you use one?

I use a Magnum 350 canister filter. The advantage of using a Magnum 350 is that it can also serve as your everyday filter with a bonded blue sleeve over the media basket. Then when you need diatom filtering, you simply add the Micron Filter Cartridge and coat it with diatom powder. I've also used a Vortex in the past, while they are somewhat more efficient at diatom filtering, I didn't like having a single use filter.
