What's the deal with my guppies. Every now and then I see a string wormlike thing hanging from the back bottom (anus I'd guess). What is that? :)   ??? :'(

They are most likely Threadworms(Nematodes).

Unfortantly, There were no cure for them when my guppys had them a while back. You may want to check with your local fish store to see if there is something to treat all the fish and the tank.

There is a middle stage where the eggs are , and a final stage where the worms are in the intestinal tract, and hanging from the anus.

They block the fish from excreting waste, so they are most likely suffering, and will die from it. Euthanization, or a quick cure from a med is the what must be done.

Hmm?  I don't think they are most likely nematodes.  Some times fish get stringy things hangin' from their anus.
It's usually called poop.  Sometimes an unhealthy fish will have colorless "excreta" that hangs on.  One book I have calls them trails. (You and Your Aquarium; Mills, Dick;Alfred A. Knopf Inc.,New York;1986) page 27.
Try a little variety in the diet,-spirulina or tubefix worms or something different.  Watch and see what happens.  If it looks like worms.  Really looks like worms then it is.  If it looks like stringy "poop" then its "trails".

You have to make sure , and see if it is a worm or not, thinking it isn't a worm, and then it being a worm is disaster for the fish not yet effected.

Usually the fish also gets pale, but considerably thinner.

Yo Matt,

Meant no disrespect.  I agree about ruling it out.  I've never had the Threadworm thing.  Have had plenty 'o trails though.  Usually resolved OK with some variety in diet.  Just wouldn't like to see Mantis euthanizin' no fish with out just cause. Know what I mean?

peace yo
