I've been considering one for a small betta tank but I happened upon one or two horror stories involving this filter sucking fish into its impeller and chopping them to bits.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this filter. There are no reviews on Epinions.com or anything. Just wanted to hear some feedback about it before I let what might be an extremely rare occurance deter me from an otherwise great filter.

I've seen these filters. They're way to wierd and ugly for me. Also, Bettas aren't the best swimmers anyway. It doesn't surprise me at all about a poor Betta getting trapped in one. I wouldn't get one.

Yeah the style is pretty much hit or miss I might think. I actually think they're really neat looking and probably could be easily hidden, plus they provide pretty good filtration for being so tiny.

Haven't heard of bettas getting sucked in. I believe the article complained about tetras or something. But yes, bettas are far more prone to anything like this if it does occur...so I'm being very wary.

Oh good call Lotus. We were leaning towards the Stingray because we were thinking an internal filter might be more betta-safe. (As we are looking for power filters for 2.5g betta tanks.)

What do you think of it for such applications? I see it's only 16gph, and that might be gentle enough for a betta. Though I'd probably cover the inlet with nylon mesh of some sort just to be safe.

I've heard/seen other betta keepers using them in their tanks. I haven't personally used one (don't keep tanks that small), but I believe they work pretty well.

I currently have an internal filter on my 5g hex, and I really don't like it. It's a pain to clean, as you have to put both hands in the tank to open it, etc., then it throws all the junk all over the tank. :(
