hang on skimmer

as of now I have a protein skimmer in a sump and I want to hang it onto the back of the tank.My problem is my tank has a canopy on top.So my question is,is there anyway to extend the skimmer away from the canopy so the top of the skimmer will clear the back of the canopy

Why not just cut a bigger opening on the canopy?

I hate to cut the canopy up if there is another solution
