If everything goes like I plan, I'm going to work in a nice little tropical fs pretty soon. Its new and it hasn't been up not even days. My dad just put in the good word for me too when he saw that it was open. I'll be going over there tomorrow morning, but I just had surgery, so I can't work, but as soon as I heal up, you can call me the mayor.

Yeah about half a year ago I was looking for work and so I decided to apply at my lfs which is a great store and has been around for ages. Their staff are very professional and their stock is the best u can get in my city so naturally when they were hiring I decided to apply. I gave them my cv but then decided not to talk to the manager since I was actually fealing intimidated by the fact that some of their employees have been working there since the first day i walked into the store when I was a kid. That's a long time to be working in a pet store and no doubt these guys have a world of knowledge that I probably couldn't even begin to compare with. So that's why I never bothered to follow up on that job. It's too bad cause I would learn a lot as well as actually enjoy a job for once unlike all my previous crap jobs. Oh well maybe one of these days when I feel I have enough experience in the hobby will I go back and apply when their hiring again.

no - i dont think i could as i would be too tempted to tell people correct information. My LFS sells just 1 tetra without telling people that you have to have a school of them. Ive also seen them sell a couple of neons with a large clown loach (yes they were going in the same tank). he gets info about his products wrong all the time and cant recongised me even though i go there about once a week ( hes getting quite old).

but its good to hear that there is a good LFS out there. pity there not anywhere near me....

i worked at a lfs once and i must agree with the whole statement by colesea.i did have a good time doing my job but the customers are idiots.pretty much every part of that job was depressing because you are powerless to help fish unless you work in a good store where the owner has the same ethics as you.if not you will be plauged by stupid people who you try to prevent from killing fish all day long while trying to do your daily duties as well.even worse you could be like me and have worked for a guy who gets stoned all day, doesn't even know what he sells and talks to his employees like children.oh and he never knew what was going on in the store so he would always complane that you weren't doing your job but in all reality you were doing ten jobs at once because your boss is too busy getting stoned.

Thank you Catfish for giving the long and short of it<G>. Just search this forum and you can find many amazing tales about my wonderful woes at, errr....a certain Pet COpany. I'm too lazy to repeat them all. I loved the aquatic aspect of the job, no doubt. If all I'd've been left to do was take care of my fishroom, I'd've been thrilled and still with the job. But noooooooo.......

Well this guy that I'm about to get a job with is very into his fish shop. Hes been involved with fish for 8 years and even volunteered a whole summer at a local hatchery just to "learn" a little about fish. The only thing is that he chews your ear off about fish!! I'm pretty sure he doesn't get high either. Hes got the highest quality filtration system in town too. 6 UV sterilizers and a one HUGE filter. A pretty nice assortment of very different fish too. Puffers, cichlids, discus, baby whales, butterflies, shrimps, eels, and all that phat stuff.
